"Sorry this is the worst anniversary present..."

So I haven't blogged in a while and I needed to update you on our 6th anniversary weekend! Our anniversary was actually Sunday, June 22, and we were planning to go to dinner and a movie that night. However, Saturday morning Jeffry woke up around 2 a.m. not feeling well. Our church had an outreach at a children's home that day, and he was supposed to be there at 7. Since he was feeling bad, he didn't leave until around 8. I brought the kids with me around 9:15. It was so much fun! Most people pruned bushes and hedges, while others painted or power-washed. Everyone brought lemonade, watermelons, and made homemade ice cream. The kids played or helped their parents. Caleb had so much fun putting the pruned branches in piles. I think it's great for our kids to see us in ministry...actually reaching out to other people in our community. Anyway, after the outreach, Caleb and I came home while Jeffry took Brayden to a cow sale in town.
A few hours later, they came back home and Jeffry laid on the couch saying he still was feeling bad. We tossed around ideas of what it could be, and I got online and looked up symptoms of appendicitis. He had a few but no fever, nausea, or vomiting. We decided to go ahead and call our family doctor and ask his opinion. The doctor happened to be playing golf on the golf course where we live! So Jeffry met him on the 9th hole, and Dr. Burn checked him out right there, haha! (Only in a small town!!) Dr. Burn poked him and said it was definitely his appendix, and that he needed to go to the ER for a cat scan. Ahhh! I started freaking out a little.
I rushed to get some clothes packed for the kids, and we dropped them off at my friend Cydnee's house. Then we headed to Hattiesburg to the ER. We got there around 5:45 and by 11:00, Jeffry was in surgery having his appendix removed. He got out of surgery just after midnight (which was now our anniversary), and the OR nurse called to let me know he made it out well and he was doing ok. He was so groggy but had the presence of mind to tell her to tell me "Happy anniversary, and sorry my present is such a bad one this year". Can you believe that!? That was the first thing he said when he woke up! I thought it was sooo sweet!
So we were in the hospital until last night. Him sleeping in the uncomfortable hospital bed and me sleeping in the uncomfortable chair that folds into a (joke of a) bed for three nights. Well I guess really two and a half. Oh, and the only thing to do was stare at each other or watch TV. Yes, we are officially sick of TV. And well-versed in all the current commercials. What a way to celebrate our 6 wonderful years together. :) However, I did remind him that day that I promised to love him in sickness and in health...and I was definitely fulfilling my promise, so what better way to commemorate our day. And he still owes me dinner. Haha.

  1. Who needs an appendix anyways?! At least you will remember where you were on this anniversary! Congrats on the baby news! What do the boys think about being big brothers to a baby?

To answer your question- yes and no- Some days I carry my camera around with me everywhere, stopping on the side of the road to catch perfect sunsets or pretty flowers, but since I got out of school three weeks ago, I've gotten kinda lazy with it. I use a Canon Rebel Xti- it's so easy and perfect for me! I looked at the pioneer woman- wow! How does she have time to do all that she does?!
